The PSL Scale Explained – Full Breakdown of Every Tier

The PSL scale is the standard rating system used in looksmaxxing communities to objectively measure facial attractiveness. It runs from 1.0 (severe deformity) to 8.0 (theoretical genetic perfection), with 4.5 representing the true average person.

Here's a complete breakdown of every tier.

Why Use a Numbered Scale?

Subjective descriptions like "he's attractive" or "she's average" are useless for self-improvement. They mean different things to different people and change with context.

A numbered scale allows:

  • Objective comparison over time (did looksmaxxing actually work?)
  • Clear communication about where someone stands
  • Identification of which features are bringing the score down

The Full PSL Scale

1.0–2.0 — Subhuman (Bottom 0.1%)

Severe facial asymmetry, deformities, or genetic anomalies that make someone distinctly unattractive by any cultural standard. This is not simply being ugly — it refers to clinical-level facial issues.

2.0–3.0 — Sub-Average / Sub-5 (Bottom 1–5%)

Noticeably unattractive. Poor facial harmony, lack of basic symmetry, weak bone structure. A 2.5 would be someone who makes others uncomfortable to look at — not medically deformed, but consistently rated poorly across demographics.

3.0–4.0 — LTN (Low-Tier Normie) — Bottom 5–25%

Slightly below average. This is where most people who describe themselves as "ugly" actually land. Plain, unremarkable features without strong points or obvious flaws. Easily improved with softmaxxing.

Characteristics: Poor skin, weak jaw, no standout feature, bad haircut, out of shape

4.0–5.0 — MTN (Mid-Tier Normie) — 25th to 50th Percentile

The absolute average human face. Symmetrical enough not to be noticed negatively, but nothing that makes a strong impression. This is statistically where most people are.

Characteristics: Average symmetry, average features, no obvious deficiencies or standout points

5.0–6.0 — HTN (High-Tier Normie) — 50th to 85th Percentile

Conventionally attractive. You'd call someone in this range "cute" or "attractive" in everyday conversation. At least one genuinely strong feature (good jaw, good eyes, great skin) elevates them above average.

Characteristics: Good grooming, at least one standout feature, symmetrical face, decent bone structure

6.0–6.5 — Chadlite — Top 2–15%

Striking, notable facial structure. The best-looking guy in most rooms. Would be considered a local model, popular social media creator, or high-end influencer. Women notice him immediately.

Characteristics: Strong jawline, prominent cheekbones, positive canthal tilt, lean face

6.5–7.0 — Chad — Top 0.5–2%

Exceptional facial genetics. Near-perfect harmony, hyper-masculine bone structure, and forward facial growth. This is male model or professional athlete tier. Generates interest everywhere he goes.

Characteristics: Perfect jawline, model-tier cheekbones, hunter eyes, exceptional symmetry

7.0–7.75 — Giga Chad — Top 0.1%

Barely perceivable flaws under scrutiny. Extreme facial angularity, radical definition, perfect symmetry. The kind of face people stop and stare at.

Characteristics: Every feature excellent, extreme forward growth, exceptional sexual dimorphism

7.75–8.0 — True Adam / Tera Chad — 0.001% (Theoretical)

The absolute peak of the scale. Mathematical facial perfection. Considered by looksmaxxing communities to be essentially unattainable for real humans — reserved for idealized concepts of genetic perfection.

Where Do Most People Fall?

Based on looksmaxxing community analysis:

  • ~50% of people fall between 3.5 and 5.0
  • ~30% fall between 5.0 and 6.0
  • ~15% fall between 2.0 and 3.5
  • ~4% fall between 6.0 and 7.0
  • <1% fall above 7.0

What Can Looksmaxxing Do?

Through softmaxxing (skincare, diet, grooming, style, sleep), most people can realistically gain 0.5–1.5 PSL points.

Through hardmaxxing (mewing, jaw exercises, body transformation), gains of 1.0–2.0 PSL points over 1–3 years are achievable.
